Rensch Dental

3.6

I'm personally putting this review out to warn other patients of my experience with Dr. Michael Rench. On January 20th 2026 I received a text notice that I needed to call the office and reschedule my appointment that was scheduled for January 27th 2026 as they did not have a hygienest. I stopped in the office on January 21st 2026 and tried to reschedule and I was dealing with Jess. She told me that I would have to wait until October 2026 and I told her that was unacceptable and that was crap as that would be 1 year and 3 months for my cleaning and that's why I schedule them out 6 months in advance that I have good teeth and I want to keep them. She very rudely said that's just the way it is and I said seriously your very rude and I don't think that's in your job description. She then said I'll put you on a waiting list. I told her I'd be looking for a new dentist as I walked out the door. On January 22nd 2026 I got a termination letter due to on going issues. I've always been respectful and have never had ANY issues with Dr. Rench or his staff except Jess and her rudeness. I emailed him twice and he will not answer either one of them. I did find another dentist that has a 4.9 review rating and I can see him way before October 2026. Also, he's lost my husband and son-in-law as patients.

Went to Dr. Rensch in March of last year to see about getting a loose Bridge replaced. He is a "In-Network provider" with my insurance. He got a pre-estimate approval and his rude office lady (Mindy) told me my share would be 3750.00 got the Bridge work done on August 8th and he added a code to the claim that made it error out. (He and his office girl Mindy have been doing this for 20 to 30 years so I bet this wasn't his first error with same code) They wouldn't help me clear their mistake because--he got to charge me out of network price --4000.00 more! Mindy doesn't let you talk to anyone but her, wouldn’t help me clear the error and when I did clear it with my insurance she was excited to tell me that it didn’t mean anything because I would still need to pay the extra 4000.00 even with the error they caused. Why? she said "because we can" very unprofessional. She said "this happens all the time"! I bet it does Im reporting it anywhere and everywhere while I pay the extra 4000 Dental billing FRAUD

They wanted to charge to fix dental work they performed not even 6 months ago. This place is an absolute rip off. Grievance has been filed with the Iowa dental board.

Dr Rensch is a great dentist and very nice and friendly. We have had such a horrible experience with his billing person Mindy. She says she is going to follow up on things and never does. I have entire conversations with her that she doesn't remember having and she told me "she can't keep track of all that." She says she will do something and nothing ever gets followed up on. She is horrible and rude and very condescending! She never calls me back about anything. She doesn't know anything about her job. I wanted to work through the plan for treatment so I could make an educated guess of the amount to put on my flex plan and she acts like she doesn't have the time of day. I tried to do this two years in a row and she refused to help. I have left at least two messages for Dr Rensch to call me and he didn't respond. I asked to speak to the office manager and they said that was Dr Rensch's wife but she doesn't deal with stuff like this. What is a customer supposed to do? I have always been treated very well by the rest of the staff but Mindy is horrible! I'm not sure why she is able to keep her job because she is completely useless. Mindy told me that billing my insurance is a "courtesy", that she is not responsible for it really. I guess my only choice at this point, is to find another dentist.

Dr Rensch and his team are amazing. I’ve been a patient with his office for 23 years. They are always friendly and professional. Dr Rensch is truthful and very skilled. I would highly recommend this practice!

I had been to Dr. Rensch’s office twice for my regular checkups. The last time I was in there I told the hygienists my teeth were really hurting, so she had Dr. Rensch come in to look at me. He barely touched my mouth. Told me my gums look great and no cavities so it must have been the Ora gel I was using for the pain. A few days later a large pearl size bump showed up behind my front teeth and I was in a lot of pain. I called to get an emergency appointment and was told it would be a week and a half before they would see me. He called in a prescription without even seeing me. I filled the antibiotic and had taken it all before my appt. I finally got in to my appt and his assistant took an X-ray. Then he came to the door of the office with his arms crossed and said I thought o you said your whole mouth hurt. I said yes it does but the bump is behind an old crown in the lower front. After he read the X-ray he walked in, showed the xray to me, told me my body was rejecting the crown (mind you it was 30 hrs old) and I would need to do a bridge. THEN he said don’t worry, I won’t leave you looking like you came from Arkansas, (not professional at all, how did he know I’m not from Arkansas, it was upsetting because I have a lot of friends and even family there) I’ll give you a temporary tooth until the bridge comes in……Needless to say I went to. New Image Dentistry for a 2nd opinion. Found out even after the antibiotic Dr. Rensch gave to me my root canal under the crown was full of infection. This was on Friday and on Monday I had that removed, infection cleaned out and a permanent bridge made for me that same day. Dr. Rensch acted liked I was lying about being in pain and never showed any concern for me. Oh one last thing, he told me I had zero cavities, and that was not true either. Maybe he should just stop practicing. If you have great teeth this practice might be alright, but iif you have a problem, go somewhere else.

I had a similar experience with their billing dept as the other bad reviews. I dealt with someone named Jessica. I went in for a standard cleaning in February of 2025. I recently switched insurance companies & forgot to tell them so I will take responsibility for that. My issue is how they handled this situation. I got my standard cleaning and they billed my old insurance company (United) and United paid out that claim. Then United contacted Rensch and said that I actually wasn't covered so they need the $82 paid back to them. Rensch paid them back and then told me that I needed to pay them. I told them that I was insured so I asked if they could bill my new Insurance Company and get reimbursed from them. Jessica very RUDELY told me that's between me and my insurance company and she couldn't help me at all. So I looked this up online and they could have filed a new claim with my new insurance company for me and got reimbursed. I also called my new insurance company and they confirmed what I researched as well. So Rensch could've filed a new claim but instead I'm having to fill out the claim form and get reimbursed myself - it takes 30 days. I told Rensch to cancel me and my son's future appointments and I hope the $82 was worth it as they lost 2 patients. She had no problem and didn't even try to win us back or apologize. It's just poor customer service and I've been going there for 15+ years and my son is 12 and has been going there since he was born. They lost 2 patients because of their rude and unhelpful staff. I would tell people to find a different dentist with more friendly and helpful staff.
