Ann Arbor Smiles - Huron Parkway

I’ve been working with Dr. Marlow for two years now. I have found him to be knowledgeable, trustworthy, patient centered, very skilled and professional. I’ve had a lot of dental work done over the years and in my experience he is one of the best ones I’ve worked with! All the hygienists I have seen have been very skilled, personable, and take time to explain what they are doing, provide guidance and help to make the experience better. The admin staff are great as well, In terms of personable, friendly, and professional.

As a new patient, my experience was excellent. Everyone was welcoming from scheduling to arrival to patient care. The office is modern and very comfortable, with up to date dental technology. The dental hygienist, doctor, and staff were all outstanding and very friendly. I am looking forward to having them take care of my dental needs moving forward.

Dr Emily Kennedy Marlow is amazing. So thorough, and knowledgeable. Everyone I encountered was so nice and welcoming. Would highly recommend!

As a new patient was a wonderful experience from my first phone call until the end of my appointment. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and communicates well. Dr. Ault is phenomenal as is his assistant, her name has slipped my mind. Thank you for your prompt and excellent care!

Consistently quality hygenists, dentists are reasonable and skilled, good at explaining and seem to make good judgments. 11/12/2025 update: I had a discrepancy for a bill with an inconsistency between an element of my bill and what had been affirmed verbally by a member of the Ann Arbor Smiles team over the phone. I reached out to the billing department and after a few exchanges was able to resolve this inconsistency with their support.

We cannot give enough praise for Dr. Gray at Ann Arbor Smiles and his dental hygienist. Our neurodivergent daughter needed extensive crown work done, and we were connected with the perfect dentist. What stood out most was his excitement about creating a smile transformation. His enthusiasm relieved our daughter’s dental anxiety, and his technique made her crown work virtually painless. If you are afraid of going to the dentist, or you have a differently abled family and are looking for a dentist who will ‘get them’, we highly recommend Dr. Gray and his team.

AVOID! Poor insurance communication and repeated administrative failures. I came in for a cleaning and X-rays, during which I was told I needed a wisdom tooth extraction. When I asked about costs, I was told I would only owe a $90 consultation fee and a $50 base deductible, after which my plan would cover the rest. I booked the consultation. At the consultation, I was presented with a bill totaling over $800, because the oral surgeon on staff is out-of-network and only covered at 50%. Notably, he is the only out-of-network doctor at the practice. I only discovered this myself after leaving as nobody flagged it, despite having my insurance information on file. When I raised the discrepancy during the visit, the consultant was equally confused but had no answers. I was also strongly encouraged to get a 3D X-ray that was not fully covered by my insurance. As it turned out, the oral surgeon I eventually saw didn't think it was necessary. When I called back to ask if an in-network dentist at the practice could perform the extraction, I was told the out-of-network doctor is the only one who does extractions. I asked for a referral elsewhere. They suggested the UM School of Dentistry. Three weeks and three follow-up calls later, I was told the referral had been sent ten days prior. When I called UM Dentistry directly, they had never received anything, and told me it would be a four-month wait even once a referral arrived. I ended up booking an oral surgery center on my own. I requested my X-rays be sent over before my appointment. They were not. The receptionist at the surgery center had to call the practice while I was sitting in the waiting room to obtain them. I later switched to a new dentist and requested my X-rays be transferred in advance. Same result. Nothing sent until I called back and pushed. TLDR: The clinical care may be fine, but the administrative side of this practice is horrendous. Repeated failures on insurance communication, referral follow-through, and basic record transfers made what should have been a straightforward process genuinely stressful and time consuming.
